About Our Program
To mark the UNESCO World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, The Human Mosaic: Celebrating Cultures, Building Peace will be hosted at the United Nations Community Center in Bangkok on 21 May 2025. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights article 27 states, “Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.”
This commemorative event will convene distinguished delegates, civil society leaders, organizations, and artists to highlight the profound contribution of cultural diversity to peace.
The event will open with a culturally rich programme featuring traditional performances and the screening of NOMAD, an independent film produced across 25 countries and seven continents. The film embodies the spirit of global interconnectedness and underscores the power of cultural expression in building mutual understanding.
This will be followed by high-level keynote addresses and thematic panel discussions focusing on the role of culture in peacebuilding. Participants will explore strategies to elevate the cultural and creative sectors—industries that generate over 48 million jobs worldwide and contribute significantly to youth employment, gender equality, and gross domestic products of countries worldwide.
Despite its economic and social impact, the cultural sector remains underrepresented in international cooperation and public policy. Furthermore, it is reported that 89% of global conflicts occur in regions with limited intercultural dialogue, reinforcing the urgent need to place culture at the core of peace and development strategies.
The Human Mosaic seeks to foster meaningful intercultural dialogue, encourage inclusive participation, and promote cultural pluralism as a cornerstone of peaceful coexistence. The event will also serve as a platform to reaffirm commitments to integrating culture into national and global development frameworks.
Through celebration and dialogue, this gathering aspires to build bridges across communities and continents, advancing a more inclusive, culturally enriched and peaceful world.
